The situation before the mezzanine floor
BSI Merch experienced rapid growth as a specialist in music merchandise e-commerce, which meant the existing storage space was no longer sufficient. There was a need for additional capacity for both storage and manual picking, without interrupting daily operations. At the same time, the ground floor needed to remain as clear as possible for larger goods, which further limited the available space. This created pressure on logistical processes and required a solution that could increase space without expanding the building.
A mezzanine floor that maximises capacity
For BSI Merch, Nolte Mezzanine delivered a mezzanine floor with two levels and a total surface area of 1,332 m². The structure is built from cold-rolled steel profiles with a column grid of approximately 3,600 x 3,600 mm and a chipboard floor finish. By making optimal use of the building height, the available space has been significantly increased without structural changes to the building.
Efficient solution for storage and picking
The mezzanine floor provides BSI Merch with a combined solution for storage and picking. From an original ground surface of 666 m², the usable space has been expanded to 1,996 m². This means a tripling of capacity within the same facility. The layout enables fast and organised order picking, which is essential in an e-commerce environment where speed and structure are key.
Technical specifications and execution
The mezzanine floor consists of two levels at +4,400 mm and +8,800 mm. Stability is ensured through cross bracing, creating a solid construction. The floor is designed as a picking tower for e-commerce applications, aligning well with the logistical processes of BSI Merch. The combination of a steel structure and chipboard flooring makes it suitable for intensive use.
